Paeonol (PAE) is one of the main active ingredients of Cortex Moutan. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and sedative effects. Because PAE has the characteristics of volatilization, poor water solubility and irritation to gastrointestinal mucosa, it can affect the bioavailability. In order to reduce the volatility, increase the water solubility, improve the stability and the bioavailability, PAE is usually sulfonated into salt or PAE- beta cyclodextrin (CD) inclusion complex is prepared by ultrasonic method, but the inclusion rate is low and the effect is not obvious.
Hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharide, which has better water solubility and less irritation to the skin and mucous membrane than the beta -CD. It is a safe and effective auxiliary material. When hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin and paeonol are combined, the stirring speed is set to 350 r/min and the inclusion temperature is set to 50. The inclusion rate is the highest, about 87%.
