Tongji University Participated in the World Internet Conference 2024 and Jointly Released the “Research Report on Global Artificial Intelligence Governance”
On November 20, 2024, the World Internet Conference opened in Wuzhen, China. With the theme of “Embracing a Digital Future that is People-centered and AI for Good - Working Together to Build a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace”, this conference adopted a combination of online and offline methods and attracted more than 2,500 guests from over 190 countries and regions around the world to participate, jointly conducting in-depth discussions on the latest developments, future trends, and global governance of Internet technologies.
At the Wuzhen Summit of the World Internet Conference, the World Internet Conference Think Tank Cooperation Network was officially launched. Two think tanks of Tongji University - the Institute of China's Strategic Studies of Tongji University and the Research Base for International Governance in Cyberspace of Tongji University - were successfully selected for the “World Internet Conference Think Tank Cooperation Program”. This program aims to gather the wisdom and strength in the global Internet field and jointly promote the healthy development and international cooperation of Internet technologies.
This network is composed of think tanks of member units of the World Internet Conference from Europe, Asia, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other regions as well as international high-end think tanks in the global Internet field. Its members cover various types such as enterprises, scientific research institutions, universities, and association organizations. The research fields involve professional directions such as the Internet, artificial intelligence, big data, communications, cloud computing, etc., as well as multiple important issues like the digital economy, online culture, international governance in cyberspace, and network security. Relying on their research strength and positive contributions in relevant fields, the Institute of China's Strategic Studies of Tongji University and the Research Base for International Governance in Cyberspace were successfully selected for this high-end think tank cooperation network, further enhancing Tongji University's influence and voice in the field of global Internet governance.
Experts from Tongji University were deeply involved in the writing of the conference outcome document, the “Research Report on Global Artificial Intelligence Governance”. This report aims to comprehensively sort out the current status and challenges of global artificial intelligence governance, put forward targeted policy suggestions and governance frameworks, and provide references and examples for stakeholders such as governments of various countries, international organizations, enterprises, and academia. Professor Men Honghua, the director of the Research Base for International Governance in Cyberspace of Tongji University, and Professor Lu Chuanying, the deputy director, attended the closed-door meeting of the "Forum on International Rules in Cyberspace" and witnessed the release of this important achievement.
Through this in-depth participation, Tongji University not only demonstrated its professional strength and positive contributions in the field of global Internet governance but also injected new impetus and vitality into promoting the improvement and development of the global cyberspace governance system in the future.
