The 3rd Shanghai Doctoral Students Forum on International Relations was Successfully Held
The 3rd Shanghai Doctoral Students Forum on International Relations was successfully held on December 8, 2024. The forum, themed "Promoting More Effective Major Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics in the New Period of Turbulence and Transformation", was jointly hosted by Tongji University and the Shanghai Association of International Relations, and organized by the School of Politics and International Relations/Institute of China's Strategic Studies at Tongji University. It was successfully held in Conference Room 1802 of Zhonghe Building at Tongji University.
Professor Men Honghua, Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education, Vice President of the Shanghai Association of International Relations, and Dean of the School of Politics and International Relations/Institute of China's Strategic Studies at Tongji University, and Researcher Mao Ruipeng, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Association of International Relations and Researcher at the Shanghai Institute of International Studies, respectively delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the forum. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Researcher Cai Sanfa, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Politics and International Relations at Tongji University.
This forum attracted the attention of many doctoral students in the field of international studies. A total of enthusiastic submissions were received from doctoral students of 34 universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nankai University, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, Tongji University, Shanghai International Studies University, Jinan University, Tianjin Normal University, and China Foreign Affairs University. Nineteen outstanding doctoral students from 12 universities were selected. Meanwhile, more than 20 experts and scholars from institutions such as Tongji University, Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Institute of International Studies, the Shanghai Association of International Relations, as well as periodicals such as "International Outlook" and "International Review" were invited to offer guidance on the spot.
The participating teachers and students centered on the theme of the forum, "Promoting More Effective Major Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics in the New Period of Turbulence and Transformation", and discussed multiple important issues from different research perspectives and observation dimensions, including the new period of global turbulence and transformation and its impacts, the trends of great power competition and cooperation in the new era, the current situation assessment and future direction of China-US relations, and the breakthroughs and innovations in major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. The aim was to promote young students' understanding and thinking on the relationship between China and the world, strengthen academic exchanges and ideological collisions among doctoral students in the field of international relations in Shanghai and even across the country, and help to form a young academic community.
